Naval officer identified as Rear Admiral Daniel Ikoli has allegedly committed suicide

A top Naval officer identified as Rear Admiral Daniel Ikoli has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself to death in his house in the Apapa GRA, Lagos State.

Punch reports that Admiral Ikoli who was the Fleet Commander, Western Naval Command, Apapa, who was found dead in a pool of blood by his houseboy.
It was learned that a service pistol just as expended and live ammunition were recovered at the scene by police detectives who visited the residence.
Family sources say Ikoli who was Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT and a member of the Presidential Committee on the Probe of Arms Deal, lived alone with his houseboy with his wife staying in Abuja while his children are schooling abroad.

According to the houseboy, he heard a gunshot coming from the deceased's room at about 5 am on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, and rushed inside only to meet him in the pool of his blood and he raised an alarm.
A source close to Okoli disclosed that he had been managing depression and an undisclosed ailment for some time, adding that the conditions could have led him into committing suicide.
However, there are diverse reports on how the Naval officer died with the police also investigating the possibility of assassination.
Another source has revealed that Rear Admiral Ikoli had often expressed worries about the possibility of assassins coming after him as a result of his membership of the arms deal committee.
