The Nasarawa State University Keffi Muslim Ummah had on Sunday 12th held its annual Ramadan Symposium.
The programme which was held at the 1000 seater auditorium of the main Campus was a Success.
Speaking at the occasion, The Vice Chancellor of the institution Prof. Muhammad Akaro Mainoma in his welcome address expressed his joy that the Muslim Ummah of the institution are not disadvantaged. In his words,
"We are not disadvantaged in the sense that we can say what we feel, how we feel and we can also do our Deen the way it is described".
Mainoma also said that the Ummah have a greater support in the University by getting the hands of a lot of people who are committed to developing the University.
He also said Nigerians cherished Sadauna of Sokoto because of what can be traced to him, be it university, media outlets, infrastructures and many more which are also present in Senator Abdullahi Adamu and he thank God for the Muslim Ummah of the Institution that he (Adamu) is still alive.
He however said that people are committed to fasting and do a lot of things during fasting because they have the knowledge of the importance of fasting but people don't seem to know the importance of Islam itself and as such, they don't behave as Muslims.
In the same vein, Senator Abdullahi Adamu said there are things happening in Nigeria today which need to be stood up against. He also said that the Nigeria being challenged is the Nigeria of today and tomorrow.
He emphasized on the fact that the challenge of Nigeria of tomorrow is more for the youths than the elders.
Adamu also urged the youths to stand up for the country "You should not leave everything alone for the president to be talking against what is happening in the country today"
"you should not give room for some people to create bad impression of the country or about the governance of this great nation both nationally and internationally", he said.
Meanwhile, the guest speaker at the symposium Dr. Ahmad Bello Dogarawa in a lecture titled Islam and fight against corruption in Nigeria, said corruption is not a new phenomenon in the country but unlike before it has now become more pronounced due to call for governance, economic crisis that necessitate the country to block leakages.
He also emphasized that corruption is view on the point view of Islam as a mischief, abusive, rottenness, wickedness, viciousness as well dishonesty which Islam has zero tolerance for.
In his words "Islam calls for the fight against corruption in view of its damaging effects on every aspect of humanity".
In his vote of thank, the Emir of Keffi Alhaji Dr. Shehu Usman Chindo Yamusa II thanks the general public for making the event a success and also called on the organizers to continue with the good working of sanitizing and sensitizing the general public.
