Amaechi - Kaduna Dry Port will generate more jobs

Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amechi, has commended the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) for promoting Dry Port and Truck Transit  Park (TTP) in Kaduna State and  across the country. He said that the dry port will generate employment opportunities to the teeming people and boost the local and national economy.

Speaking yesterday in Kaduna at the collaborative seminar organised by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and Inland Container Nigeria Limited (ICNL),  Amaechi said the Dry Port and TTP projects were conceived as part of solution to the problem of hinterland shippers’ inadequate access to seaports and frequent congestion. He said the frequent congestion at seaports had led to loss of cargo in transit, carnage and accidents.
The minister said: “The inland Dry Port therefore has the potential benefits of not only reducing transport cost and bringing shipping to the door steps of the shippers, but will generate employment opportunities to the teeming people and boost the local and national economy.
The importance of Kaduna as an administrative capital of Northern Nigeria, and a center of commerce and industry drawing huge agricultural trade in local and export volumes, cannot be overemphasized. It is common knowledge that Kaduna is host to a number of textiles and Argo-allied industries, a motor assembly plant among others, and therefore a most suitable location for the inland Dry Depot project.”
