FASHION : Aisha Debuts ‘Woman’ for Pre-Spring 2017

The pre-Fashion Week phase births an army of thinking designers who debut rather impressive offerings, and joining the ranks today is none other than Burgeoning womenswear label, Woman by Aisha, popular with names like Waje, Unoaku Anyadike and Linda Ejiofor, who has flagged her first collection.
The Woman by Aisha collection, inspired by the generational evolution of women, uses a mash up of fashion eras to tell its very cohesive story.
According to Aisha, “I was inspired by the life of women, the beauty, the imperfection, the desire to grow, the strength through struggles, how time helps us evolve through our experiences and how these experiences gradually lights the pathway to finding ourselves.
Puffy sleeves, color blocking, reworked LBD, off-the-shoulder, fringe details, cut-outs, suits, old Hollywood glamour, oversize appeal and peplums, Aisha has managed to establish a coherent dialogue of trends and the eras which they reigned supreme. I love how she pulled this – a collection of reconstructed basics that mixes the essence of retail with editorial perception – off.
It takes a skilled reductionist to interpret and express these ideas with perspective and an edge. This budding designer has proven that she’s one.
A fashion hit or miss? We leave it to our viewers to serve their verdict.
