FG inaugurated committees to supervise airports concession plan.


The federal government on Friday, inaugurated two committees to supervise the implementation of its much talked about airports concession plan.
The committees were inaugurated by the minister of state for aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika who doubles as the chairman of one of the committees.
The committees, according to the Punch, are named Project Steering Committee, and the Project Delivery Committee.
Sirika reiterated his belief that the airports concession move was in over-riding national interest and to ensure the establishment and sustenance of world class standards in both infrastructural development and service delivery.
The project steering committee headed by the minister has been saddled with the responsibility of providing the general direction and steering the course of Public-Private Partnership project concessions in the aviation sector.
The minister, according to a statement from the ministry, gave the terms of reference for the committee to include approval of technical, financial and legal framework for the successful preparation and execution of the airports concession.
The committee will also see to the provision of policy guidelines and general direction on all matters relating to concession of projects and programmes in the aviation sector.
Others are to consider and facilitate necessary permits, clearances and approve action plans, budgets and financial requests submitted by the project delivery committee.
Nigeria’s four major international airports in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port-Harcourt are to be given out to investors to manage for a stated period of time under the concession plan. The airports will however continue to remain assets of the federal government.
