In Ondo State Heavy Rainfall Destroys Houses and Properties


Heavy rainfall in Ondo has destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.
Residential buildings, offices, shops have been submerged as a result of the gully erosion around the headquarters of West Local Government Area, which is the hometown of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.


Residents in the town affected by the outcome of the unrelenting downpour have started relocating to other communities outside Ondo City to save lives and properties.
Eyewitness accounts claimed that vehicles everywhere in the city; including those parked on the road, were submerged during the downpour.
According to a resident in the area – Babalola Ayedotun, a pensioner who spoke to journalists, recounted that he lost his entire property to the current flood disaster.
“I am very sad. I have lost my whole life to this flood. Look at my property being washed away into the erosion,” he said.
Another victim of the flood, Bisola Oyewole, a local petty trader in the town, noted that most of the people who fell victim to the flood are the ones with their means of livelihood hanging in the balance.
Residents in Ondo City have called on the government of Dr Olusegun Mimiko and President Buhari to find a lasting solution to the disaster that plagues them.
They are also advocating for immediate assistance and quick response from the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA).
The areas affected by the flood in Ondo town include; Holy Trinity Junction, New Town, Ore and Ife Roadblock, and Itanla Junction, among other popular areas.
