A Lagos landlord who stabbed his tenant to death after a disagreement over the proper place to dispose off dirty water, has been remanded at the Ikoyi prison.
The landlord, Gbade Metibemu appeared before the Ebute Magistrate Court in Lagos on Thursday to face trial on a charge of murder but his plea was not taken.
The Magistrate Mrs K.A. Ariyo ordered that Metibemu, 34, be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Metibemu was said to have had an argument with the deceased tenant, Bright Chineme over where the deceased’s wife should dispose off her used water in the compound. In the course of the argument, Metibemu picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Chineme to death.
Vanguard reports that the prosecutor, Insp Cpl Hafsat Ajibodu informed the court that the accused committed the offence on the 21st of July at No 10, Apollo St, Makoko, Lagos.
The offence which contravenes Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state cannot be tried in lower courts, including magistrates’ courts, being an offence punishable with death should the Lagos landlord be found guilty.
The magistrate adjourned the matter to October 25.
