Who is Mark Otieno aka Markote.

Mark otieno is a simple young man. From Kericho town. Born in Migori in1991.third born in my family of three.

Where and when did you get in to the art of music .

I started back in 2004 but professionally I started in 2010, in Kericho town.

Till  date what are some of you insights on the music industry.

Music is fun, it has changed my life. It only needs hard work and patience, challenges are there too.

What are some of those moment you call low and high moments in your career .

Low moments are when you try so hard to get your music played in some stations but it gets hard... All they need is money. High moments is those moments i perform in a big crowd or audience as they keenly listen to me.

You have been fronting talent search in Kericho county, what has been the motivating factor for doing this .

In Kericho I see so much potential talents amongst the youths and the kids. I took the challenge to encourage them explore it. Some end up in drug abuse, instead I think they can use their talents to make a living for them.

You are among the few artist in town doing something unique in terms of music style, can you bring up to speed with your music culture .

Being unique is the way out. Its good when you do something different. This comes after realizing what your fans need to here so I choose to do music that cut across both the young and the old.

Which are some of your songs .

Mko sawa, Mama, Elshadai, Ni onyo, Niguze, Washindi, Ameniona... I have more than 20 songs.

Most artist crib in Kericho but choose to move to bigger towns like Nairobi because they have gotten some musical root whats your reaction to this.

I think moving needs plan, I have friends who moved and ended up losing it all. I think everything has its own time. There are so many  promoters out there. For me I find it so great being in Kericho as this is the place I grew musically. And fan base is soo huge. There is no much competition.

Who is your dream collabo artist and why.

If I can do one with Christina Shusho from Tanzania. I love her vocals and she is a blessing to me too. A collabo with her will be perfect.

Is music paying your bills and what is that itch point that keeps pressing you to do more in music ?

Music is paying all my bills. I live music and what keeps me moving on is just by looking back at how  far  I have come and  my fans  asking for more from me.

If you were to change anything today what would it be ?

I will change the belief that people have towards artist.. Some still think music is a waste of time..

What has been the criterion you use when selecting a theme of a song you want  to write?

I see the issues in the society. I see lifestyles of my fellow youths. My life story also inspires me. And I also look at the mood in certain situations.

What does music means to you.

Music is my life, It runs in my blood and it means everything to me. It defines my life.

In brief words try and sell out yourself as an artist and your songs .

Am a performing artist, I sing songs that touches the hearts of many. You can get my music online Markotee. On YouTube and you can subscribe to my music on Skiza platforms

Whats your advice to that person who wants to be like you ?

My advice is pray, work hard, push your work. Understand your fans and do good music. Never lose hope and more so keep improving everyday.

What are some of the challenges that you have spotted  hindering talented people and how have you come out of your way to solve it/

Challenge to this people is exposure, they never get that platform to showcase their talents. This is the reason as to why we do talent shows in various places. For them to get the chances.

What should fans expect from you in the near future ?

Fans should expect a lot more, there are more events coming and more videos too. Just keep the support coming. Without them no morale. They play a big role in my career

 Whats you partying shot ?

I love all my fans... May God bless them always. We headed for greatness. No turning back. We keep moving up together.
