Ahmad Khan Rahami, the prime suspect believed to be behind the bombing attacks in New York and New Jersey over the weekend has been arrested after a shootout with the police.
The explosion in the Chelsea area of Manhattan in New York on Sunday left up to 29 people injured. It came on the heels of another bomb attack in New Jersey on Saturday.
On Sunday, the police named 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami as a suspect in the explosion in Manhattan over the weekend.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also issued a wanted poster on Monday seeking information about the suspect and warning that Ahamd Khan Rahami should be considered “armed and dangerous”.
The Telegraph reports that Rahami was arrested around 11am (New York time) after an exchange of gunfire with the police in which at least one officer is believed to have been injured.
America’s security agencies are exploring links between the New York blast and a pipe bomb in New Jersey on Saturday morning, as well as five suspicious devices found near a train station on Sunday night, There are also suggestions that a terror cell may be behind the attacks.
On Sunday night, security agencies detained five people with possible links to the New York terror attack.
Police also responded to reports of a backpack with suspicious wires and a pipe found in a rubbish bin near a New Jersey train station and a pub.
One of five suspicious devices in the backpack exploded as the FBI attempted to disarm it with a robot.
