VIDEO : Lupita Nyong’o Playing Chess Wrong At a Kids’ Club

Having a bit of fun while promoting her new project- Queen of Katwe, Lupita Nyong’o visited the Boys and Girls Club in Chicago where she stopped to play chess. In the video which is beyond adorable, the 12-years A Slave actress was schooled in the game by chess grand-master as the kids looked on.
Her tutor gave Lupita brief lessons about the basics; trick moves and all and thereafter bet he would hand over his wallet if she managed to beat him at a game. The Kenyan-native then decided to make a totally uncalculated move, exposing her queen.
This had the kids scream “danger”, and the look of disappointment on Lupita’s face was epic.

Queen of Katwe, recently screened at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival, is a Walt Disney biographical sports drama about the life of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan chess prodigy from Katwe who becomes a Woman Candidate Master after her performances at World Chess Olympiads.
It also stars David Oyelowo, Madina Nalwanga and features a non-Caucasian cast – a rare occurrence for a major American studio release. It is set for a limited release in North America on September 23, 2016, followed by a general theatrical release on September 30.
Lupita Nyong’o who has become a big voice for people of colour in Hollywood shared her Vogue magazine feature with the rest of the world yesterday, touching on all things heritage, skin colour and of course getting the rights to Chimamanda’s novel- Americanah. She also shared a video of herself making the local Kenyan delicacy-Ugali which she finally learnt after admitting on national television that she couldn’t cook the porridge meal.
