The Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week, LFDW, is taking a fresh twist this year, maybe because its one time sponsor turned competitor (Guaranty Trust Bank) with a track record for setting international standards, has cooked up its own show.
The standards have been raised and in its bid to churn out a more grounded generation of designers, its much craved platform for young designers (Fashion Focus) will not be happening this season.
Prior to the announcement of this bomb shocker that left more than a handful of young designers unhappy, its Fashion Focus program (which has through the years helped in grooming and equipping budding fashion designers) was billed to select just five lucky talents with brilliant potentials.
Now that its Fashion Focus program is taking a break this year, we can only hope the LFDW’s coveted list of showcased designers will include names of young designers who have shown promise so far in 2016.
Here are five designers we hope will make the Heineken LFDW cut for 2016.
