Nigerian Army foiled a plan by 8 Boko Haram Bombers in Borno

The Nigerian Army foiled a planned suicide attack by Islamist sect, Boko Haram, resulting in the death of eight suicide bombers in Borno State.

This was disclosed Tuesday by the acting Director, Army Public Relations Unit, Col. Sani Usman, who said that the troops stopped the attempted suicide attacks at a checkpoint in Gubio, Gubio Local Government Area of the state, Punch writes.

According to Col. Usman, the suicide bombers blew themselves up in a Bedford van loaded with Improvised Explosive Devices and suicide vests while trying to resist the directive of the soldiers to screen the vehicle.

“The troops of Operation Lafiya Dole at a checkpoint in Gubio, Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State at about 9.15am today, foiled a suicide attack on Gubio town by eight Boko Haram terrorists,” the statement read.

“The suicide bombers, who came in a Bedford van loaded with Improvised Explosive Devices, attempted to force their way through the checkpoint but met a stiff resistance from troops, who insisted that the vehicle must be thoroughly checked.

“The suicide bombers refused and blew up themselves by detonating one of the suicide vests, killing all the eight Boko Haram terrorists in the van.”

This interception by the military has come amid renewed suicide attacks in Borno State and environs as the terrorists seem to have regrouped.

On Saturday, the state capital Maiduguri was rocked by twin blasts at an IDP camp and a popular joint in the city centre, killing nine and injuring several others.
Also, the daredevil insurgents laid a fatal ambush on Nigerian troops a day later in Damboa, killing a number of soldiers.
