Over the weekend, reports surfaced online that YBNL act, Lil Kesh is set to part ways with the Olamide-led record label.
While both parties have not spoken concerning the reports, here are some of the FACTS that we have:
In April 2014, Olamide signed up Lil Kesh and Viktoh. At that time, both were underground acts from his hood, Bariga.
Lil Kesh’s debut single ‘Shoki’ became an instant hit – so much so that just a few months after (November 2014), he was on stage with Davido and Olamide performing at the Channel O Music Video Awards.
Fast forward to June 2015, Olamide embarked on a Twitter rant to explain that he signed only 2 years deal with his new acts after which he hopes they’ll be good enough to stand on their own.
Not long after, Lil Kesh moved out from his mainland residence to a posh apartment in Chevron drive, Lekki.
He also set up a home studio where he finished the recording of his first album ‘Y.A.G.I’. Furthermore , In March 2016, he officially released his debut album under the YBNL imprint.
Our source however confirms to us that indeed Lil Kesh is floating a label of his own that he intends to start as a movement.
We also gather that Lil Kesh and Olamide are in very good terms and his contract with YBNL already expired a few weeks ago.
Lil Kesh, according to our source, has been the one funding his project and music videos for a long time. ‘Olamide has been training them all to stand on their own and Kesh was the first to blow that’s why he’s the first to move on’, our source said.
Still fresh in the minds of fans is the Kanye West-like rant Olamide pulled at the Headiesfor two years in a row to protest against Lil Kesh losing the Rookie Of The Year Award toReekado Banks in 2014, as well as the Next Rated Award in 2015.
