For the third time in 5 days, another girl has reportedly been raped and beaten, this time with a mallet, in Ughelli, Delta State.
The worrying incident occurred on Monday, June 27, at a shop in Ekuigbo community, where the victim identified as Charity worked as a salesgirl in a fish feed shop. This comes on the heels of the rape and death of another salesgirl in Afiesere community.
In addition, on Friday, the wife of a popular hotelier was also attacked and raped inside her shop along Ekerejebor Road in Ughelli.
Charity, whose head and eyes were smashed in the process, was found naked by a shop owner in her building and rushed to the Ughelli Central Hospital where medical personnel battled to save her life.
An eyewitness on speaking with Vanguard noted,
“The victim was raped. Her assailants used a mallet they left behind in the shop to smash her head and eyes.”
As at the time of this report, the assailant was still at large and no arrest made.
