A prophet with the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Ogun state has
been arrested by men of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) for allegedly
impregnating a 15-year-old girl.
The prophet, Dr Michael Adeniran,
who doubles as the founder of the CCC El-Bethel Parish in Itaaka
Abeokuta, was arrested on Saturday after the girl’s mother filed a
complaint with the police.
According to Punch, the prophet’s teenage victim is a senior secondary class 2 student at Saje High school in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Ogun
state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the
mother of the victim is allegedly the suspect’s lover, and a member of
the church.
“Trouble started when the complainant noticed that
her daughter was pregnant and mounted pressure on her to disclose who
is responsible for the pregnancy.
“The mother, who could
not believe what she heard, reported to the police, prompting the
Divisional Police Officer, Adigbe division, Onatufeh Omoh, a
Superintendent of Police, to detail detectives to effect the arrest of
the randy shepherd,” ASP Oyeyemi said.
The police
spokesperson further said the victim told the police that the suspect
lured her into his car on the day she marked her birthday and forcefully
deflowered her.
The suspect also allegedly had sex with the victim a number of times afterwards.
Ogun
state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate
transfer of the case to Anti- Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of
the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for
further investigation.
“The CP also reiterated his earlier
warning to parents to always be watchful of their children in order to
prevent them from becoming victims in the hands of people with devilish
intention,” Oyeyemi said.
He said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the investigation was concluded.
Sex
with a minor is regarded as rape under Nigerian law and the prophet
could face a minimum of 14 years imprisonment if convicted.
