Investigation has revealed that the practise of unprotected sex  (no use of condoms), the  patronage of local  (native) doctors, who perform uvulectomy with unsterilised instruments on patients with "Belu Belu", is the major factor causing the rise of HIV/AIDS in the State.

The Chief Medical Director at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, Dr. Yakubu Ashuku, has also lent his voice, to the crusade against the activities of native doctors.
