On Thursday 10th, of November, the tenure of the present Chief Justice of The Federation Mahmoud Mohammed, will officially End About a month ago, precisely on the 11th October, The National Judicial Council, put forward the name of the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Walter Samuel Onnoghen from the South South region, to the presidency for acceptance as the Chief Justice designation.Shortly after, the Gesttapo raid on the judges started and the whole idea might have been the timing to coincide with the emergence of a new Chief Justice.
Cleansing the Judiciary is one issue, and another is the appointment of the next Chief Justice.
As the reports go, the New Chief Justice designate, Justice Samuel Walter Onnoghen has not been found to be involved in any of the issues of graft and not also involved with, any of the judges and Justices so far identified with corruption and Graft.
And this is very important as many have begun to wonder - Would this President complete his famed Northernization of all security and Law enforcement agencies with an elaborate plan, aimed at preventing the emergence of a non northerner as the Chief Justice of the Federation by not accepting the nomination of the National Judicial Council or will President Muhammadu Buhari succumb to honor,equity, justice and Seasoning by accepting the the Judicial Council recommendation, even at this late hour, thereby preventing a vacuum and restoring some tiny bit of confidence that some Nigerians have all but lost in President, that has been consistent in appointing northerners into some key position. Not time, but only a matter of hours, will tell.
